Nadene's Review of Worth the Wait

Worth the wait is a contemporary African American romantic read set in Columbia, South Carolina

The story is about a young woman named Tasha, who is the daughter of a Baptist preacher. Tasha was raised to belief that sex outside of marriage was a sin and as such she had held on to her virginity in the hopes that she would soon find the right man to settle down with. After several disastrous dates she came to believe that her virginity was more of a curse than a blessing and as such she embarked on a quest that would ultimately change her life.  At this point we are introduced to Jared, the consummate player. He was deemed to be the perfect candidate to relieve Tasha of her virginity as he was a no strings attached individual.  The plan would have been perfect, except the unthinkable happen, they fell in love with each other.

Worth the Wait was well written story and very interesting. It kept me turning the pages as I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. It was very realistic and I was able to relate to the characters.  The characters were developed in such a way that I was able to establish a connection to each of them. I was able to feel their pain, insecurities and triumphs.
Tasha was what one would classify as a good girl, the type of girl that Jared would not get involve with. Jared believed that women were the ultimate deceivers and as such he never stayed with one woman for too long.  As such when he started to develop feelings for Tasha he was not able to handle it.  Tasha is a very strong and determined female. She knew exactly what she wanted and had no qualms going after it. Jared was arrogant and thought he was God’s gift to women. Oh please! I had developed a love/hate relationship with Jared. His treatment of women was despicable. I disliked the way he that he assumed all women were the same and that none could be trusted. He only saw them as a means to an end when it came to satisfying is sexual needs.  Then he matured and it became easy to like him and to be sympathetic towards him.

This story addresses the issue of what happens if one makes a conscious decision not to settle but to patiently wait for the right person to come into your life.
I had two issues with this story. I did not like how the issue of Jared’s previous lover’s deception was dealt with. This deception had an impact on Jared’s and Tasha’s life but it was just swept under the carpet. I also felt that the ending was a bit rushed and could have been better developed.  Apart from this, Worth the Wait was a good read and was definitely worth the time spent reading it.
