Anna Kelly had no intention of
returning to her hometown of Patience, Tennessee. At eighteen, feeling
powerless from an abusive childhood and heartbroken from her high school
sweetheart, she needed to put distance between her and the small town. Now,
eleven years later she's invited to her best friend's wedding and has no other
choice but to return. Though she feels much stronger the second time around,
nothing can prepare her for when she sees her ex again.
After a baseball injury, Jake
limped back into Patience, damaged and angry. Throwing himself into remodeling
Anna's childhood home has given him purpose again. He is just getting his life
back together. He can't risk sending it all back to hell again, but the woman
who broke his heart has whipped back into town...and she wants her house back.
In hopes of reminding Anna of what she ran away from all those years ago he
makes her an offer she can’t refuse—three dates, that have Anna rethinking
Patience...and the life she was supposed to have with Jake.
Angela’s Review:
This story is set in the small
country town of Patience, Tennessee. A
small-knit community where there isn’t an unfamiliar face. Being raised in a
small country town in Maine, I totally fell in love with the quaint little town
and its family oriented atmosphere. The
secondary characters were well written and very memorable in my opinion.
Ms. Simpkins gave us one of the
hottest heroes that I have read in a long time. I will admit to having an
affinity for a man in a kilt, but jocks are an extremely close second! I adored
everything about Jake Lawrence. This author even made him look hot when he was
acting like a jackass. However, it was his big heart that endeared me to his
character, and that belonged wholly to Anna. *Insert Big Sigh*
What I loved most about Anna Kelly,
despite the fact that she was truly vulnerable for issues in the past, she
strived to not only be a survivor, but an overcomer! The author’s ability to write a strong
heroine, had me immediately rooting for her corner (except during the Yankees
game), and there were so many heartfelt moments, that it felt as though I was
experiencing all of Anna’a hurts from the past and present firsthand.
My favorite scene was her going to
watch him play softball at the Patience Thursday Night softball game. I have
always wanted to be one of “those” girls who cheered on her man from the stands.
I found myself devouring page after page well through the night. If you love your baseball players sexy and
romantic, and your heroines headstrong and passionate then should not miss out
on Forgiving Patience by Jennifer Simpkins.
