Satin Sheets Welcomes Author Christie Kelley - What do you like to read?

Thank you having me today!  I thought it would be fun to talk about historical romance, how much the subgenre has changed over the past thirty years, and my personal keepers. When I first started reading historical romance, the stories were long, adventure filled books that could take place over years. We were taken from the Caribbean to Russia and many lands in between. Even being a fast reader, it could take me days to finish one of those lush books. These were the books with the reputation that came to be known as bodice rippers.

I miss those books…well, some of them. Some, I will admit, were more like rape than a slightly forceful sex scene. That is not the part I miss. I long for the exotic destinations like St. Petersburg, Nassau, Italy, France, and yes, even the USA.

With many authors self-publishing today, we are finally seeing some differing locales, but the mainstream publishers haven’t picked up the concept again. I think one reason we see a lull in historicals every few years is people get tired of every book being set in England or Scotland. The readers move onto a different subgenre of romance until they tire of all the millionaires and secret babies, then they come back to historical romances.

I doubt we’ll ever go back to the long historical, though. This is something I can understand. I work full time, write when I can, have two almost grown sons, and very little time for reading. I have been reading one of my favorite author’s books for over a week now and I’m only halfway through it. The book is not poorly written and it’s not dull. It’s a lovely story. I just haven’t had the time to put into reading this wonderful book. Years ago, I would have been done with that book in two days or less.

So, as I’m sure you have guessed by now, not only do I write historical romance, it is also my favorite subgenre to read. Some of my favorite authors are Johanna Lindsay, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, Victoria Alexander and Kathleen Woodiwiss.

I thought it would be fun to discuss keepers. The books you go back to over and over until you have to buy a new copy because you’ve worn out the old one. Of course, with e-books that won’t be a problem.

One of my top keepers is A Heart So Wild by Johanna Lindsay. First, I love this story because it’s set in the western US but the hero isn’t really a cowboy. I always found this to be a very magical story. It is one story that makes me cry almost every time I read it.

Next on my list is Judith Ivory’s The Proposition, because who doesn’t love a hero who’s a rat catcher. If you haven’t read this one, I can’t recommend it enough. I just pulled it off my bookshelf so I can reread it again because it’s been a couple of years.

So what are some of your keepers? No, they don’t have to be historical or even romance. Anything is fair game. Just tell me about that one book you reread every year or so because it touches your heart.

 This is the third book in the DANTE'S CIRCLE SERIES. It doesn't disappoint. The author takes us on a 

roller coaster ride. Hunter the brooding sexy as sin wolf was first introduced to us in Her Three Wishes .

Was happy when he got his own story. This man is just sexy and when he finds his true mate. He will

do everything to get her and keep her safe. Becca is a beautiful but kinda klutzy . She knows that she is his true mate , but doesn't know a thing about him. So starts their story with a few bumps along the way . They will fight whatever gets thrown in front of them .  I will warn you that once you start to read this book, you won't want to put it down. You will get pulled into the characters and what they went through to get to each other. The hell that they endure between the Pack and the memories will they survive. You will cheer for the hero and heroine . The cast of characters are varied and lovable , from a dragon bar owner to demons , pixie and an angel . You will fall in love with them all . Carrie Ann has brought to life a good series with lots of 

suspense, action and romance . lots of romance . So if you want a good read with hot sexy men and the strong women that make them better check out this book actually check out the whole series

A Sexy Getaway

If you were going to plan the perfect romantic getaway weekend, what would you choose? 

Maybe a beach setting.  The hot sun, the warm sand, the yummy margaritas.  Can’t you just imagine the sunset walks along the shore, bare feet and a soft, cotton flowing dress over a very sexy bikini?  Maybe a romantic sail along the coast? 

Or a big city romance.  You know, edgy clubs, fancy shoes, decadent dinners at the hottest restaurant.  Dressing up and playing jet setter, complete with mimosas for brunch (because who’s up for breakfast after a night of clubbing?) and champagne for dinner. 

A snowy mountain getaway for that secluded romance.  Snowball fights and skiing, winding up in front of a roaring fire with a hot toddy and an even hotter hero?

All of these are wonderfully romantic.  But for FEARLESS, the weekend getaway was all about the sexual fantasy... which meant only one place would do.  Las Vegas, of course.

“So what brings you here?” Luke asked, needing a distraction from the demands his body was trying to make.  Demands that’d have them both naked and putting on a floor show pretty damned soon.

I so enjoyed the girl friends relationships to one another it really made the story interesting. The little gatherings and the tell all girls nights were a nice touch. U was happy that both Gia and Luke both had someone they could confide in for a change. Yes this is a must read for all romance readers and erotic readers as well. I definitely will read this book again.

BUCK ,BUCK,BUCK . All the dreams I use to have when I was a small girl . Of what it would be like to live in the past. And what kind of man I wanted. And Ms. Raddon , she found just the man I have always wanted; and his name is Buck! 

We first start off with Tempest , strong woman who will do anything to keep her and her children afloat and pay back all her dead husband has done. When she is cornered and given then awful choices of marry or leave she doesn't know what to do. And just when you think it is all over her come her dusty, dirty, brown horses LONG dead husband? 

Buck, promises Tempest husband ,Skeet to make sure is and the family is ok , as he lied dying. Buck agrees but being throw in jail side tracked this promise. But once her get out he head to make that promise true. Little did he know he will just have to what he got himself into.

Wonderful story, loved the back and forth between Tempest and Buck. She don't take no crap from him or anyone. And that is what Buck needs. A strong woman , to show him it is ok to love again. Ms. Raddon is a wonderful , detailed writer and you will be missing out on this if you let this book pass you buy.

I thought I’d indulge myself (and hopefully you too) by chatting about my favorite romance genres and what makes them my favorites. Let’s start with Highlanders, shall we? Is there anything better than an enormous kilted man carrying a broadsword and commanding you not to fash in his rolling burr? Whether the Highland hero is modern day or from the past, I’m usually a gonner for a Scot. My favorite Highlander writers include Karen Marie Moning, Diana Gabaldon, Sandy Blair, and Connie Mason

Next on my list of favorite romance genres is time-travel. I absolutely adore the dynamic of a modern-day heroine falling into the burly arms of a no-nonsense warrior with the weight of the world (or at least the weight of his little slice of historically-important land) on his shoulders. Whether the hero be a Highlander, a Viking, a Brit, or a Civil-war era werewolf, I can never resist a story in which a woman loses EVERYTHING she’s ever cared about and realizes she has EVERYTHING she has ever truly needed in her hero. My favorite time-travel writers also happen to be my favorite Highlander writers, because the genres often overlap. But I would add to my favorites list Maggie Shayne, Mae Clair, and Jan Irving.

But for the reader firmly entrenched in the present day, there are plenty of amazing heroes to chose from in contemporary romance. From motorcycle club badasses to billionaires, from orderlies at mental institutions to high-priced lawyers, from frat boys to exclusive escorts, there’s a modern-day hero for everyone. My favorite contemporary authors lean toward the erotic and include Kristen Ashley, Ruthie Knox, Cara McKenna, Charlotte Stein, Amber Lin, Serenity Wood, and Barbara Kellyn. I like my erotic romance to be smart. I like the sex to be important to the story and therefore not gratuitous. That said, I like it to be frequent and dirty and sometimes kinky. These ladies hit just the right spot for me and usually leave me noodling over something in my own life as a result of taking a journey with their characters.

Last but not least, paranormal romance. Shifter, vampires, the fae, ghosts, demons, psychics, witches, and wizards, I love them all. What draws me to this genre is the way otherness can seem so forbidden, so unexpected, and so dark and dangerous, and THAT makes it all the more satisfying when two people of vastly different life experience, race, or ability find common ground in love and sex. PNR often explores themes of trust, overcoming prejudice for love, and committing to one soul mate for life, all things that make me swoon. Some of my favorite PNR authors are Virginia Kantra, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Nalini Singh, Annie Nicholas, Thea Harrison, and Candace Havens.

These four genres heavily influenced me as a writer. I always try to learn something from what I read and can often be found hen-pecking copious notes into my kindle. You’ll see Highlanders and time-travel in Wishing for a Highlander (Lyrical Press, January 2013). You’ll see my paranormal twist on contemporary romance in Road Rage, out this month with Lyrical Press. As much as I enjoy reading the wonderful and talented authors I’ve mentioned, I truly love taking what I learn from them and making it my own.

who wouldnt want to read a book with sexy fireman?

Laine is afraid of walking down the aisle and getting married but shes a wedding planner and owns her own wedding boutique. Kyle is a sexy fireman looking for "the one" (great story idea)

Great sexy story..... Love Laine and Kyle's characters. Laine sexy successful rich business women looking for hot sex and nothing else. Kyle a hot as hell fireman looking for hot sex and maybe more, cant believe his luck when Laine gets into a accident out in front of the fire house. Laine cant believe she got into a accident while ogling a hot as sin fireman hosing off a truck. He cant stop thinking about her. She cant stop thinking about Mr Orgasm (whats she nicknamed Kyle's assets). As they go their separate their ways their desire for each other burns out of control and Laine's vibrator cant even keep up with her. Jeff Kyle's best friend is also a fireman and is a super jerk pain in the butt when it comes to Kyle's life (very well written, I wanted to slap the heck out of Jeff). Although Jeff and Kyle had shared girls in the past, Kyle is not willing to let Laine any where near him. Laine and Kyle's sex is out of control hot. Loved the relationship between Laine and Kyle, even though their were ups and downs and tragic circumstances while Kyle is recuperating, laine stays by his side.  I couldn't stop believing in their happily ever after.

Totally hot as hell read. I loved the part when Laine's mother  thought that kyle was a delivery boy and the way the guys refer to women as "minivans" if they want marriage and kids. Also loved the glow in the dark condom loved this book, highly recommend

My Review:

I instantly feel in love with the characters and story line of this book, Rhy especially (hot, hot and oh so very HOT!) I also loved the concept it carried, the different races intermingling for the first time known in history and some falling in love without a second thought of the background, the evil prejudice that has clouded many’s vision for far too long. I found myself laughing, crying and holding my breath in suspense many times over throughout reading. There’s a ton of humor, action, adventure, super sexy sex and fun to be had in this wonderfully vivid work of Sheri Fredricks'. Any paranormal lover that wants to enjoy something completely original will get great joy reading Remedy Maker :)

Rhy is a man during the day and a Centaur through the night. He’s also a remedy maker, a very well known and well respected one, that’s super hot (oh, did I mention that already?) and has a super deep problem within himself that even his remedies cannot cure. He lives alone and loves his solidarity. He enjoys helping people, but does not want them to invade his personal space. PTSD has made him this way, it’s how he best lives with it. But that all changes when his dear friend Samuel brings an injured Wood Nymph to his humble abode; she invades much more than his living space and he’s not quite sure how to deal with it.

Patience is one kind, caring, beautiful and very positive thinking Wood Nymph whose way of talking had me laughing out loud multiple times. But her use of words allows us to see how and why she’s perfect for the job she does which is a mediator for the Nymph’s and she’s very good at it! Injured while searching for her missing sister, she awakens and finds herself in a strange place feeling a bit worse for wear. Meeting the well known remedy maker brings forth feelings she’s never before experienced and is unsure how to deal with them. But our forever loyal and reliable fate runs its course and fixes that issue with incredible smoothness ;)

I loved experiencing the growth of both the main characters, growth of love, strength and character. Together they alone accomplished a very difficult task that none other was able to  accomplish for many years and they also pulled the wool from the eyes of many of those who had a very strong prejudice and/or just a misguided mind. Patience and Rhy is one of my favorite paranormal couple of this year is so far. They are two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together and each gives the other balance, contentment and happiness they have never known. Now I have one question for the author... When is the next one coming out?

Tabitha's fork stopped in mid-air as heat flooded her. She was glad for the towel underneath her. The last thing she wanted was to stain the upholstery.

Tabitha set down her fork. "Marcus!"

He continued eating. "Yes?"

"I can't eat when you do that."

"You can't?" He took another bite of chicken, clearly enjoying it. His fingers searched her intimate recesses.
