American detective Sam Holt has a knack for finding people who shouldn't be found. When his last case almost killed an innocent woman, he swore off detective work forever. But when this same woman asks him for one last investigation--to find her husband's long lost mother--Sam cannot refuse. Clairvoyant Irish artist Glenna McClure will do anything to stop Sam, even if it means teaming up with a powerful sorceress who she knows she cannot trust. But when the petals of a mysterious night-blooming rose begin to turn black, Glenna realizes that an even darker force is at work. To protect the people she loves, Glenna will have to face a terrible curse that has haunted her all her life before the final petal fades to ash.

Natalie Gibson's Review:

I started writing this review and realized it was almost exactly the same as the ones I wrote for the first two.  It isn't that the books are monotonous or repetitive because they aren't.  I loved each one separately for their unique stories, but the thing they have in common is Sophie Moss' TALENT.  This author has a well developed voice that has style and is a joy to read.

The Selkie Sorceress, like its predecessors, is a very well written book.  Sophie Moss presents a climactic and engaging end to this wonderful selkie trilogy. The mix of mythology in a contemporary setting was achieved through fairytale books read by the children in the novel.  The story is familiar and yet presented in a way where I did not know what to expect.  Brilliant.  The supernatural is presented in a believable and realistic way.  It was like the air on Seal Island was thick with magic and the inhabitants didn't notice because they were used to it.  The same happens to the reader - each book is more fantastical (I mean, this one had a murdering sea witch and good hearted mermaid/selkie hybrid) and yet the author manages to make you so engrossed with the story that you forget to disbelieve.  The magic seems perfectly normal.  The same two things struck me as I read this one as when I read the others: the rich well described setting and the excellently paced plot.  The story developed naturally, not a word seemed rushed nor description overly drawn out.  I was actually anxious when the tide threatened the island, and felt the heat of the fire.  Every character's actions make sense; they do what feels right to that individual, not just what the author needs them to do.

If you haven't read The Selkie Spell and The Selkie Enchantress, then do yourself a favor and buy them!  You won't regret it.  Obviously these books are in a series and should be read in order.  I wish I could go back and read them again for the first time.

Blurb:
American doctor Tara Moore wants to disappear. On the run from an abusive husband, she seeks shelter on a windswept Irish island and dismisses the villagers’ speculation that she is descended from a selkie—a magical creature who is bewitching the island. But when a ghostly woman appears to her with a warning, Tara realizes it was more than chance that brought her to this island. Desperate to escape a dark and dangerous past, she struggles against a passionate attraction to handsome islander, Dominic O’Sullivan. But the enchantment of the island soon overpowers her and she falls helpless under its spell. Caught between magic and reality, Tara must find a way to wield both when a dangerous stranger from her past arrives, threatening to destroy the lives of everyone on the island.

Natalie Gibson's review:
This is a very well written book.  I won't do a plot summary - I'll talk about the seemingly effortless skill with which Sophie Moss presented this wonderful selkie story.  The cover grabbed me but the first few pages tightened that grip and the story held me fast. The mix of mythology in a contemporary setting was presented in a believable and realistic way.  It was like the air on Seal Island was thick with magic and the inhabitants didn't notice because they were used to it.  The characters were well developed individuals but not caricatures. I want to do this book justice with a good review but honestly I just want to gush, fan-girl style.  Two things struck me as I read: the rich well described setting and the excellently paced plot.  The story developed naturally, not a word seemed rushed nor description overly drawn out.  I would have bet money this book was written by an experienced author and published by one of the Big 6.  I would have lost.  Gems like this are why we should never let ourselves be swayed away from an indie book. Ms. Moss is an indie author to watch and her voice has style.

~ "The air was crisp and cool and refreshing when Tara stepped outside and she took a moment to soak in the view.  She could hear men shouting over their motors down at the docs, bringing in their catch for the day.  The ocean crashed turquoise over a silver beach, fading out to the Atlantic in darker blue.  Sunlight sparkled, dropped like diamonds into the water.  To the West, puffy clouds floated over the jagged peaks of Connemara, like rich dollops of cream.  "Takes your breath away, doesn't it?" "

That it does, Sophie Moss. That it does.
Thank you for the imaginary vacation to Seal Island.  It was beautiful.

This is a 5 satin pillows read.  Every minute spent reading was enjoyable.  The love scenes were few (2) and tastefully done.  Because of this, I give it 2 candle flames.
